Nucor Hertford Tundish Skids

Nucor Steel Hertford, located in North Carolina; USA, has placed on order with INTECO PTI for two (2) Tundish Skids.  The new control skids include combustion air and natural gas controls lines and include a new burner.  In addition, Infrared Temperature sensors will be mounted into the tundish refractory lid to directly measure the refractory temperature in the bottom of the ladle.  This additional process data will allow better control of the tundish refractory pre-heat.

Gerdau Jacksonville Ladle Carbon Injection System

Gerdau Jacksonville has purchased a material injection system from INTECO PTI to add carbon to the ladle after tap.  The system stores carbon in an 870 cuft hopper, which is filled by super sack.  Also included in the system is a 100 cuft vessel that holds 4000 lbs of carbon, along with the transport piping from the vessel to the ladle stirring area.  A touch screen HMI positions a manipulator arm and selects the amount of material injected into the ladle, where the maximum amout of carbon that can be delivered is 200 lb/min.  The manipulator arm then positions the transport pipe over the ladle stirring eye. The material injection system has many benefits, including the protection of operators by eliminating the handling of 50 lb bags.  The new system will also increase the accuracy of the material added to the ladle, which will result in final carbon levels in the steel that are closer to the target specification.

Gerdau Midlothian Ladle Dryer / Preheater

Gerdau Midlothian, located in Midlothian, Texas, USA, has purchased a custom designed ladle dryer from INTECO PTI to fit the existing ladle repair building.  The ladle dryer is designed to allow the ladle carrier to deliver a ladle directly under the preheater, where the ladle lid is lowered onto the ladle for drying.  The air/fuel burner control system is designed to follow the drying profile recommended by the refractory supplier. The system's user friendly HMI based control system is easy to use, and provides clear and useful information on the status of the preheat or dry-out cycle.  Most importantly, the dryer delivers a fully dried ladle to the melt shop using the least amount of fuel.

Nucor Steel Gallatin purchases new valve train for EAF chemical energy system from INTECO PTI

Nucor Steel Gallatin has recently purchased equipment for the complete replacement of their existing EAF oxygen injection and burner control trains on their twin shell Electric Arc Furnace.  The system includes the equipment and programming for an air/nitrogen purge through both the oxygen and gas lines. The system also includes remote I/O control along with modifications to the existing HMI screens and required programming. This new control train will provide the following benefits:

  • Reliable Control
  • Multiple Burner Programs
  • Less Maintenance
  • Most recent safety improvements in programming
  • Pressure sensing on individual gas and oxygen lines, which can be used to detect the degree of burner blocking and purge during furnace turn around and downtime.

The gas and oxygen capabilities of this train are designed to allow the supply of chemical energy of supersonic oxygen injection to all 6 burner positions on the EAF.

Mid-American Steel purchases Ladle Auto Coupler System from INTECO

Mid-American Steel and Wire, located in Madill, Oklahoma, has purchased the INTECO TBR auto gas coupler system in order to automatically connect the Argon stirring gas to the ladle during tap and at the Ladle Metallurgy station. Mid-American produces steel wire rod and rebar.  Their melt shop consists of one (1) 50 short ton EAF, a Ladle Metallurgy Furnace, and a four (4) strand billet caster.  This is the second project Mid-American has purchased from INTECO PTI, the first being a JetBOx sidewall chemical and oxygen injection system. The JetBOx system was installed at two of the sidewall injection sites on the EAF to reduce kWh and oxygen consumption.
